Alex von Furstenberg underwrites the Malibu SAR team’s equipment purchase

For years, philanthropist and longtime Malibu, California resident Alex von Furstenberg has been giving back to his community. Two years ago, he donated $38,500 for the full and complete outfitting of the Malibu Search and Rescue (MSAR) team’s lead search vehicle.

“I am pleased to help strengthen the efforts of these volunteers who selflessly donate their time in order to assist people in imminent danger,” Alex said of his donation.

The MSAR team is a unit of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, an all-volunteer organization composed of Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department reserve deputy sheriffs, some civilian volunteer specialists, and incident support personnel.

Although the MSAR team is provided with equipment by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, it does not have all the gears critical to rescue operations. With Alex von Furstenberg’s significant contribution, the team was able to purchase some important rescue equipment.

“This contribution will allow our team to fully equip a new rescue truck with all of the tools needed for a search and rescue operation,” said Kevin Ryan, a 30-year member of the MSAR team.

Alex, an avid kitesurfer and active outdoorsman understands the need for such equipment during critical operations.

“It is my hope that this equipment will help the Team ensure the safe rescue of all those who find themselves in unfortunate and urgent situations while exploring our community,” he said.

A known philanthropist, Alex continues to provide support to California’s civic-oriented projects.
